First Transmission: Worth Its Weight in Illicit Ivory, Tusks.

Brighton three-piece Tusks were seen tramping around our stomping ground yesterday afternoon, and although ‘Nick got to see his beloved Liverpool lose’, here’s hoping an encomium dedicated to the second of two songs we’ve yet heard from them, Across The Sea, softens the blow somewhat. For although these few waxy, if less than lyrical words barely measure up to an FA Cup quarter-final showdown with Merseyside rivals Everton, the track is itself worth its weight in illicit ivory: a muzzy smog of lo-fi psychedelia conflating influences from Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker to Art Is Hard Records’ back catalogue, it’s one to dissolve into. And once you’ve done so, any lingering footballing scruples from the weekend may well disintegrate also…
