Post-disco Brilliance, Broken Bells.

Post-disco Brilliance, Broken Bells.

Amidst the interminable Sound of 2014 litanies, it’s only too easy to neglect the fact that the New Year isn’t all about so-called ‘new music’. And by the sounds of both Holding On For Life and the below title track to¬†Broken Bells’ forthcoming sophomore full-length, After The Disco, next year could yet prove a rather crucial one for James Mercer and Brian Burton, the somewhat unlikely pairing again combining to winsome effect. “After the disco, all of the shine just fade away” forewarns Mercer in an antithetically, if typically chipper tone atop¬†glitzy post-disco ebullience, although few could refute these being their most polished, so too compelling pieces to date. To thus paraphrase a certain seminal ad campaign, the future’s bright; the future’s just around the corner.

After The Disco is anticipated February 3rd on Columbia Records.
