Gorily Glorious, Speedy Ortiz.

Gorily Glorious, Speedy Ortiz.

It’s toward the tail end of American Horror, a second to be heard from Speedy Ortiz’ sensational latest collection Real Hair, that Sadie Dupuis sings of being kept up “for a whole week” and having clinched Dots & Dashes’ second Record of 2013 in Major Arcana, and since uploaded rip-roaring Christmas demo x actually, you begin to wonder as to whether the Massachusetts tykes do indeed find time to kip. The four-piece contributed their ‘Top 5 Places We Slept’ to our 2013: An Artist’s Impression feature of yesteryear, although even then, only infrequently did they in fact even so much as mention a few seconds’ shut-eye.

American Horror certainly jolts you awake alright, however, howling tube amps snarling and scratching at Dupuis’ typically vicious lyrical delivery. Indeed, so uproarious is this latest recording that you could do far worse than to set it to spontaneously erupt every morning whenever you’re needing to catch an early flight, or creep out the front door unsighted. Mercifully, it’s now only next month that Speedy Ortiz crash and quite likely bang into the capital for not one, but two intimate dates, at which we can but hope they rip through American Horror in all of its gory glory…

Speedy Ortiz play Birthdays and The Lexington February 18th and 19th respectively, whilst Real Hair is anticipated the previous week via Carpark Records.
