Angel Olsen, All Mirrors.

“I’ve been watchin’ all of my past repeatin’” sings Angel Olsen as All Mirrors – the title track to her forthcoming fourth – begins, but as she has gone from one record to the next (and from strength to strength in the process), perhaps her greatest métier is that she’s never retraced footsteps previously trodden. (In an artistic sense, at least.) For while the below intro may bear hallmarks of Intern (MY WOMAN), with its sheeny, preening synths, by the time the kind of towering wall of shiny grandiosity that was once Tears For Fears’ stock-in-trade has been constructed, it becomes clear that Olsen is now writing on another level altogether. Throw in a lavish string-centric interlude and a huge conclusion, and this is completely incontestable. A quite incredible return…

All Mirrors is available from October 4th via Jagjaguwar, while Angel Olsen plays the Eventim Apollo on February 11th.
