Angel Olsen, Shut Up Kiss Me.

Those soft, rubescent synths of Intern may have been packed back away, but the argent wig remains in the self-directed vid for Angel Olsen’s Shut Up Kiss Me; a second to come from her forthcoming MY WOMAN full-length. And not since the rollicking Forgiven/Forgotten has the Missouri-born, but North Carolina-based siren put her point – one forever teetering rather precariously on the precipice separating breakup/breakdown – across quite so forcefully, it’s chorus a flurry of punchy imperatives it would surely be pretty well impossible to resist or, for that matter, rebuff: “Shut up!/ Kiss me!/ Hold me tight!” Sounds as though the rotten apple of her eye – at time of songwriting, at least – may have been capable of doing so, although the lyric, “Stop pretending I’m not there/ When it’s clear I’m not going anywhere” is best applied to Olsen’s current trajectory. For in this rich a vein of form, she couldn’t possibly “give more attitude,” and for that, we ought to be thankful. And with that, I’ll shut up, so you can listen…

MY WOMAN will be available from Friday, 2nd September, via Jagjaguwar, while Angel Olsen plays KOKO on Monday, 17th October [INFO/TICKETS].
