While she was never without some fairly irrefutable foibles, a forever questionable live show among the formermost, similarly irrefutable is the fact that BANKS’ allure has endured. (Indeed, début album Goddess has only gotten better with time, proving itself to be as much a sleeper as an instant beauty in the process.) And Fuck With Myself, a first we’ve heard from her in some months now, goes to show Jillian Rose still has plenty yet to give, Asiatic synths reminiscent of David Bowie’s China Girl infiltrating a minimalist production redolent of LP1, as BANKS recurrently confides, “I fuck with myself more than anybody else.” And, having so vocally suffered at the hands of others previously, there’s something ever so very reassuring in hearing this particular revelation…
