BANKS, The Devil.

Offering as great a rate of return as any contemporary pop icon, Jillian Banks – best known by the non-negotiably stylised BANKS mononym – is back with a banger in The Devil. A suitably wicked sub-three-minute, smouldering masterpiece which hears the Californian profess her newfound preference for “a fast life” over racy staccato bass and the blare of devilish horns, its verses prove most reminiscent of Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? And while there may well be lyrics concerning a descent “way down”, this intoxicating return goes to show that BANKS’ trajectory continues to ascend skywards.
