Beach House, Black Car.

From the woozy shoegaze of Dark Spring, to the zesty Lemon Glow, to the highly immersive, bipartite Dive, on the basis of all that we’ve heard from Beach House’s seventh full-length attempt thus far, 7 is set to be their most diverse, variegated release to date. And while it may be that bit less vibrant than previous numbers, Black Car makes for another decidedly engaging composition from Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally: more reminiscent of Braids than, for instance, Bloom (or, for that matter, the Canadian trio’s most recent work), it hinges on numb, blunted, slightly unsettling arpeggi redolent of Sónar de Día and the associated disorientation thereof, Legrand delivering palliative vocals perfectly befitting her nebulose lyrics all the while. Another thoroughly alluring listen from a most intriguing regeneration, therefore…

7 is available from this Friday, 11th May via Bella Union, while Beach House play the Troxy on October 17th and 18th.
