Beach House, Dark Spring.

Given how gloomy this season has proven thus far, it feels pretty apt for the latest to surface from Beach House’s forthcoming seventh full-length, 7, to come with the ‘Dark Spring’ appellation that it does. And while the song doesn’t sound even faintly vernal, it does sound vaguely like Mew’s swoonsome Frengers, had Kevin Shields ventured into the studio instead of Rich Costey to produce the Danes’ very greatest. (Following on from the sugary Lemon Glow and the vibrant Dive, sometime ‘Spaceman’ Peter Kember’s prints are far more perceptible – not to mention responsible for such a comparison – this time than prior thereto.) And, if Legrand and Scally’s intention with 7 was to give rise to ‘rebirth and rejuvenation’, it’s certainly something they’ve achieved in what lies beneath…

7 is available from May 11th via Bella Union, while Beach House play the Troxy on October 17th and 18th.
