First Transmission: Boy Scouts, Queen.

As submissions go (disclaimer: conversely, this one came to my attention via the ever-reliable GoldFlakePaint; thanks be to Tom Johnson, etc.), proving immediately reminiscent of Land of Talk’s laudable Applause Cheer Boo Hiss is a pretty surefire way of finding time and space on these impalpable pages. And it’s precisely that EP which popped into the ol’ hippocampus moments into Queen, by Boy Scouts: the nom de plume of Manteca, Californian Taylor Vick, it may not be the most remarkable, but it sticks. And all spartan, tumbling drums, rumbling bass and meticulously crafted guitar parts, the track quite incontrovertibly does likewise. However, it’s Vick’s doleful vocal – equal parts Carmen Elle and Elizabeth Powell – that tells of “a queen-size bed with a blanket for a twin” which reigns supreme, ensuring this one may still reside inside my skull a decade or so down the line, too…

Queen is lifted from Boy Scouts’ forthcoming release, Hobby Limit, which is available from September 22nd via Processional Cross.
