Goin’ Back to California, Mazzy Star.

Goin’ Back to California, Mazzy Star.

And not a moment too soon, for it’s been seventeen enervating years since Hope Sandoval and David Roback – aka Mazzy Star – last released a full-length recording of which to effusively sing the praises thereof and in keeping with prerequisite interplanetary allegory, rarely have they burned brighter. California is the lead track from that forthcoming fourth aforesaid – titled Seasons Of Your Day – and it plays off the time-honoured tradition of Sandoval’s dusky soothing offset only by the arachnid slither of Roback’s dextrous crawls across acoustic fretboard. “I think I’m goin’ back to California/ Somewhere distant, and it’s so far away” she begins as the band aurally return to the rudimentary genesis of their sand-rooted Santa Monica rise, but the sound is thus one pertaining to a striking intimacy that only intensifies the sense of utter relief felt now that they’re back with us…

Seasons Of Your Day is anticipated September 24th on the duo’s very own Rhymes Of An Hour Records.
