Having previously revealed both the doleful title track and the ‘electro riot’ that is/ was Deadly Valentine from her forthcoming Rest full-length, Charlotte Gainsbourg finds herself in a gorgeous middle ground between the two on bilingual album opener Ring-A-Ring O’ Roses. Whereas the latter track aforementioned heard the chanteuse playfully incorporate wedding vows into its lyrical makeup, Gainsbourg this time interpolates lines from the folkloric rhyme of the same name come a grandiose chorus, as rich orchestration – strings, harpsichord and things – brings out the very best in her distinguishingly ingenuous, multi-tracked vocal. And with Gainsbourg now having exhibited 27.27% of her latest effort, ain’t no question that Rest is sounding increasingly wicked…
