Crying Out For Acclaim, Boardwalk.

Crying Out For Acclaim, Boardwalk.

When Los Angelino trio Boardwalk first emerged with the irreproachably sultry I’m To Blame, all and sundry were only too keen to get beneath them and spur the statesiders on to bigger and better things than Californian melancholia. And all the support appears to have paid off, as Mike Edge, Amber Quintero and Mark Noseworthy at long last return with its follow-up in the rather more sprightly form of Crying. Yes, the piece is still streaked with haute melodrama, Quintero’s smoggy vocals concerning the irrepressible buildup of teary stuffs consummately offsetting Noseworthy’s confidently buoyant guitar lines, although not only is there a greater conviction here, but so too a refined creativity. Gone are the all-pervasive Beach House parallels, instead replaced by unadulterated praise. Or at least that what this one’s positively crying out for…
