DIIV, Taker.

Whereas Skin Game – the first to surface from DIIV’s forthcoming Deceiver full-length – was awash with upbeat, ‘buoying newfound conviction’, Taker makes for something of a musical volte-face from Zachary Cole Smith & Co., as mercurial leads struggle to cut through leaden doom-metallic droning. In spite of light, relieving vocals recalling Low, there is a palpable weight and slight weariness to it; akin to the kind of perspiration-infused confusion which follows sensorial overload of one sort or another. Taker is one such, and suggests Deceiver may yet transpire to prove Smith’s defining effort.

Deceiver is available from October 4th via Captured Tracks.
