Having clashed – schedularly, rather than savagely – with Radiohead in Barcelona, as well as Brian Wilson the following week in Porto, it’s fair to say that J Mascis’ Dinosaur Jr. were right up against it at this month’s Primavera Sound festivals. But the Amherst, Massachusetts trio have been plugging away with all the undeterred determination of the tenacious underdogs they seemingly always will be for decades already, and on the evidence of Tiny – a first to emerge from their snidely entitled forthcoming album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not – there’s still ample Jazzmasterful bite to Lou Barlow’s low-end bark. And with a chorus that’s as simple, but instantly singalongable as, “I wanna know/ I wanna go/ I’m all alone/ I wanna know,” y’know what? I reckon they’ll enamour many another festival throng in years still to come, anyhow…
