Drifting Back In, Drifter.

It was now no less than a couple years back that an enigmatic, if exemplary wunderkind from Helsinki (then operating under the guise of Forest Cry) first bleeped up on the ol’ radar. Under said nom de plume, he released an astonishingly fulfilling minimal/ micro-house full-length entitled Drifter, before setting fire to the alias and arising from the smouldering cinders as, well, Drifter. Since, the precocious Scandi talent has alas veered off out of earshot altogether, though there was that most welcome of pings in my inbox this morning informing of his return. The SoundCloud prepped and set to precipitate further seemingly Mount Kimbie-inspired excellence, Please Stay has mercifully come right back into focus.

Though it’s an altogether new cut – entitled None Else – that further establishes the man behind the moniker as the absolutely exceptional producer we’d previously heard him to be: there’s that deftness of touch; the studied contemplation of melody interwoven with fluttering arpeggios and subtle guitars; the slick compressed vocal samples hung from a warm ‘n’ sultry lil’ hook. “‘Cause I’m the one forever” it recurrently affirms, and we can but hope he sticks about that bit more definitively this time around…
