Erlend Øye, Estate.

Not, and probably best never to be confused with La Prima Estate, notorious Italophile Erlend Øye is back, and back on the subject of summer – or ‘Estate’ – with another doleful, if still typically delightful jeremiad, centred around a love “che è passato/ Che il cuore [suo] vorebbe cancellare.” A tender, deferential reworking of one of Roman cantautore Bruno Martino’s greater hits, lyrically, it fits in perfectly with much of Erlend’s quintessentially lovelorn Legao of yesteryear, with Øye longing for “un altro inverno.” “Cadranno mille petali di rose/ La neve coprirà tutte le cose/ E forse un po’ di pace tornerà” continues his lyrically colourful lament, verbatim, but this sepia piece – placid, yet plaintive as September eventide – serves only to turn up the anticipation, and perhaps slight impatience, now surrounding the onset of those imminent summer months, the associated high jinks, holidaying, and so on…
