First Transmission: FEHM, Last Breath.

There’s an air of inevitability to a city so bleak as Leeds bleeding oblique post-punk from its architecturally oppressive concrete nooks and crannies, and so it has proven historically, with the late ’70s spawning the likes of Delta 5, Gang of Four, The Mekons, and so on. More contemporarily of course, the city has rekindled its enduring rapport with the genre, with both AUTOBAHN and Eagulls sharing in critical acclaim of late, although far more attention should be afforded FEHM on the strength of the forcible Last Breath alone. For caught in a viscid, tar-like undertow, this exhilarating latest from the incipient five-piece has far more in common with The Cure circa Pornography than it does, say, The Wedding Present, and is quite the contribution from a city that has given us so much already…
