Four Tet, Anna Painting.

Much like any which image slapped down on primed canvas, it takes some time for Four Tet’s Anna Painting – a piece composed ‘in collaboration with painter Anna Liber Lewis’, whose Breath can be seen above – to come together. But once it has broken free from a tightly entwined cocoon of clicks and scuffles, 80-odd seconds in, it metamorphoses into a typically kaleidoscopic concoction of Asiatic colours, clubby bumps, and vaguely familiar vocal samples. If it may be that bit more contemplative than Kieran Hebden’s predecessing (and, indeed, prepossessing) Dreamer, then it’s certainly no less euphoric for it.

Anna Painting is available now via Text Records.
