Gang Gang Dance, Lotus.

With no fewer than seven years having elapsed since Gang Gang Dance released the undefinable, but undeniably blinding Eye Contact, it would’ve seemed fairly safe to assume that Lizzi Bougatsos et al. would never be heard from again in any kind of collective capacity. Mercifully, however, such assumptions were completely misplaced all along, as not only does Lotus (below) make for a most welcome return, but it may be their most immersive, and with that cohesive, song to date, too: Bougatsos’ vocal is more brazen than brattish; Josh Diamond’s crystalline guitar lines bring an improbably yacht-rocky roll to proceedings; rather more predictably, Brian DeGraw’s sublime production ties the piece together with the dextrous neatness of a master seamster, as cascading arpeggi recall The Knife at their incisive finest. And, with this one coming accompanied by news of a forthcoming sixth full-length, entitled Kazuashita, Gang Gang Dance’s respective very best may be yet to make itself fully manifest…

Kazuashita is available from June 22nd via 4AD.
