Despite a scant thirteen-and-a-bit months having passed since Gorillaz’ last full-length, Humanz, was released out into the wild, we’re now within one of their next, with The Now Now about to enter The Here Here. And following on from the first two sinewy cuts to have been carved from it, the entrancing Sorcererz continues in a similarly pulsating vein: another nuanced soul number, which hears Damon Albarn summon a quite convincing impression of onetime collaborator Bobby Womack atop wobbling synths and warbled baritonal vocals, he implores you “hold on to your inner visions” as though possessed by the eternally prepossessing Lee ”Scratch” Perry. And while there may well have been fewer humans featuring on The Now Now, there’s no suggestion whatsoever that it shan’t be as connective as its (at times, overly collaborative) predecessor.
