Gravediggress, CocoRosie.

Bianca and Sierra Casady seemed at the height of their supernal powers when they played Antony’s Meltdown on a balmy August evening just last summer, thus it was somewhat surprising that they didn’t follow up what transpired to be one of their more effectual tours in recent memory with the newfangled material they were then débuting. Not only was it not imminent, but it was apparently not even anywhere near forthcoming and it therefore comes as something of a relief to see CocoRosie pitching up almost omnipresently on social media feeds this morning, as the sibs return with the kooky mantra that is Gravediggress. Whether a pun on their conviction of there being further “love for humankind” beyond this terrestrial existence or otherwise, it derives much inspiration from our earthly pleasures: the scuffled agitation of hip hop; the breathtaking vocal capabilities celebrated in the operatic environs of Grange Park, the Met, etc.; and the morose accordions ubiquitous throughout mainland Europe. My only qualm is that in only finally really kicking off with twenty-seven to go, Gravediggress unfortunately isn’t allowed anywhere near long enough to live…

Gravediggress is taken from the duo’s fifth full-length, Tales of a Grass Widow, which is expected May 27th via City Slang.
