Grimes, So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth.

While Grimes’ creative output can tend to be that bit hit (We Appreciate Power) and miss (Violence), there really is never an even vaguely dull moment when it comes to Claire Boucher. And on first exposure, her latest drop – So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth – proves very engaging once again: more atmospheric than most, it sprawls over six-plus minutes, and is set to open her forthcoming Miss Anthropocene full-length. It features spare, repetitive lyrical content; thundering, industrial rhythmic components reminiscent of Moderat at the Germans’ stern, unabating best; and comparatively fleet, light glimmers of guitar. It may not be a ‘hit’ per se, but it bodes well for Miss Anthropocene for sure.

Miss Anthropocene is available from February 21st via 4AD.
