Indie Cindy, Pixies.

Indie Cindy, Pixies.

If you’re only too well acquainted with the soi-disant indie schmindie stylisation, then prepare for its keen rejoinder as Black Francis’ Pixies return with the despotic Indie Cindy. “You put the ‘cock’ in cocktail, man/ Well, I put the tail in – WAIT!” squawks Francis, aka the self-acclaimed “burgermeister of purgatory” atop the type of languid, yet pompous stomp Oasis somehow translated to a tyranny spanning decades. Listless when set against the initially aptly baggy, if eventually explosive volatility of Bagboy, the first song made available to international skinflints from this morning’s four-track EP-1 suggests there’s plenty of spice left since Kim Deal’s predestined departure. “I am in love with your daughter, and though she has no need/ I’m the one who’s got some trotters, you’ve many mouths to feed” Black squeals come its chorus, assuming a falsetto that’s seemingly imitative of a certain Noel Gallagher although still smirking, it’s the Pixies who look as though they may yet Live Forever with Indie Cindy only strengthening their cause.

EP-1 is available now on a limited vinyl run of 5,000 copies worldwide. Acquire it here.
