Waking Up With You, by nascent L.A.-based singer JNNA, certainly isn’t the first ‘electro-pop ode to young love and that feeling you get when you find your person’, and I shouldn’t have thought it’ll be the last, either. Nevertheless, there is an inexplicably intoxicating taste to this one that lingers a great while after its 196 seconds have elapsed; and whether this should be due to the purity intrinsic to its production, its simple lyrical conveyance of the ‘young love’ aforementioned or, more simply still, her impressively potent vocal, there’s a completely palatable maturity to it that belies the Californian’s scant years.
