First Transmission: Josh Jacobson, Fence.

There’s a lot going on within the three minutes, thirty-three used to construct Josh Jacobson’s Fence; arguably that bit too much, in truth: graduating from beginnings reminiscent of Frank Ocean, through Sam Smith-esque falsetto tones, on into future-soul-ful flourishes, and finishing with a floor-filling EDM finale, there are hints of a certain neurodevelopmental disorder at play. Nonetheless, there is ample proficiency of both ambidextral and compositional varieties on show here, and the outcome is – if a little aurally overwhelming at times – supremely palatable all the same.
