First Transmission: Juno Mamba, Flicker.

To say that Flicker recalls the likes of Four Tet, Jon Hopkins, Kiasmos, Moderat et al. is impressive enough; that this is the début cut by Juno Mamba – né Vinci Andanar – of course makes it all the more so. It’s made slightly less surprising, though, by the fact that Andanar has, as part of widely lionised Ballarat five-piece Gold Fields, some previous. Nevertheless, reverting to the here and now, Flicker weighs in at a muscular seven minutes which ebb and flow whimsically yet never without direction nor directness, and gives that bit more than a mere glimpse into all that Andanar is capable of producing.
