Keeping ‘Em Coming, Beck.

Keeping ‘Em Coming, Beck.

He’s been a busy ol’ boy of late, has Beck Hansen: whether that be licking Song Reader from the stave alongside the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jarvis Cocker etc. at London’s Barbican Centre, dredging up the blues beside Bobby Gillespie across town at Union Chapel or toying with the concept of releasing a couple acoustic recordings sooner rather than later, there’s been plenty to keep the salivary glands of your average Beck aficionado busy of late. And as such, this extended take on the already innately alluring I Won’t Be Long – replete with unanticipated intervenient exhalations from none other than Kim Gordon – keeps the slobbery foam coming: transmogrified into hefting disco thrill that’s flippantly eccentric as it is effective on the uneven internal dance floors to decorate my brain, oneiric acoustic intermissions meet with unabashedly anthemic interludes; Krauty breakdowns with woozy upturns to make for an atmosphere that’s beguiling as it is bemusing. All of which can’t help but make me passionately hope it shan’t be long before he returns to amplified type…
