First Transmission: Kindling, Destroy Yrself.

While you’re really fairly unlikely to read any which shoegaze appraisal without reference to either one of My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive rising to the surface, and fast, so central to the multifarious successes of Destroy Yrself is Gretchen Williams that, in this instance, it’s even more of an inevitability. (Incidentally, the song’s overarching chord progression more closely recalls Hadouken!’s Bliss Out, but that is – I’m presuming – purely adventitious.) Nevertheless, the first to come from Easthampton, Massachusetts outfit Kindling’s forthcoming sophomore full-length, Hush, is a fast and furious smudge of vocal harmonies that, beyond decipherment, lend mortal warmth to an otherwise serrated, tense opening couple of minutes. These mellow, leaving in their wake an amorphous, free-form interlude – replete with Mew-worthy synths – before one final, formidably rigid salvo sees the five-piece through. And thoroughly refreshing it is, too…

Hush is available from November 10th via 6131 Records.
