Thoroughly Nourishing, Karen Gwyer.

Thoroughly Nourishing, Karen Gwyer.

It’s been a bit since we’ve heard something typically supercalifabulous from London’s one, and likely only ‘woozy techno fabulist’, Karen Gwyer. That said, the sprawling Lay Claim To My Grub – picked off upcoming three-track EP, New Roof – instantly vindicates every second of the wait: it comprises 1,038 of those itself, and gradually reveals itself to be a rather splendiferous beast as might a moth eclosing from a silky cocoon, its steady, nocturnal motorik techno slick as it is uncompromisingly minimal. And with its figurative spawning an ominous, crystalline final five, Lay Claim To My Grub does nothing to even so much as slightly malnourish the hope that Gwyer may yet prove to be one of Britain’s greatest hopes so far as vanguardist techno may be concerned.

New Roof is due February 17th via No Pain In Pop.
