Ardent, the latest from Rennes’ Les Gordon (né Marc Mifune), happily inhabits a hinterland between compatriots Air and their rather hardier Berlin counterparts Moderat: softly pulsing at points while heartily pounding at others, it’s pulsating stuff throughout. Mifune’s knack for interweaving acoustic agility together with the rigidities associated with such assiduously meshed electronica has long since been something that he’s been quite rightly celebrated for doing, but rarely has he done so quite as successfully as is on Ardent. All of which essentially solidifies our ardency for one of the country’s brighter contemporary sparks.
