On the Horizon: A Most Agreeable Meeting, Acquaintance.

Brighton-based oddity Acquaintance, née Chris Griffin, inhabits a weird and rarely explored musical realm that can be loosely charted somewhere strangely disconcerting between Pet Shop Boys’ wry and observational electropop skronk, and Scritti Politti’s more introspective works. “Just before you make that glance of recognition, you’re spirited away to a state of indecision” Griffin begins atop a vivid panoply of effervescent beats and pristine synth lines, documenting that particularly awkward point at which you wonder whether or not to make a more meaningful connection with a faint acquaintance quite perfectly. Indeed, at times this droll social commentary approaches perfection itself, an oddly discombobulating breakdown several minutes in appearing particularly flawless. “There’s a silent virtue, everyone is into” Griffin continues, and this may soon be true so too of Acquaintance…
