Solid Soul, Tears For Fears.

Solid Soul, Tears For Fears.

When you’re in the business of trying to acquire a rather more contemporary acclaim, the revising of songs revered among a younger audience has long since represented a timeworn, indeed tried-and-tested method. And by the sounds of things, it’s serving ’80s New Wave mainstays¬†Tears For Fears rather well, as well: first, they took to Hot Chip’s And I Was A Boy From School like slives of cheap potato might a deep fat fryer, having already reignited Arcade Fire’s Ready To Start, and¬†Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith now turn their attentions to Animal Collective’s My Girls, turning in a blippy, irresistibly ebullient revision, replete with festive interludes and an intro worthy of Plastikman’s seminal minimalist manifesto, Musik. It would have been only too easy for Orzabal and Smith to continually upload iconoclastic, underdone covers, although My Girls once more suggests the guys, taking part “in the freshest wave”, are doing quite alright with these so-called “fancy things”…
