On the Horizon: A Vivid Reawakening, The Night VI.

The Night VI were once known in intimate circles as The Night, though no biggie – there are six of ‘em, with the individual members of the sextet hailing from far and wide. Bogota, Birmingham, Paris, Northampton, etc. and although Ancient Rome of course fails to feature in their globetrotting pin-dropping, the numeral seems a little more suave than the number. Moniker quibbles aside however, most pertinently The Night VI trend in brilliantly luminous drive-time pop that although immediately pompous, simultaneously retains a striking closeness. Thinking Of You, lifted from an August EP obsessively entitled Still Thinking Of You, extracts the sticky warmth from London Grammar’s atmospheric pop and smears it all over a chorus of spotless calibre. “In my hotel room, thinkin’ of you/ When I’m the loneliest I’ve been, after a few” Sophie-Rose Harper keens over explosive electric rustlings and crisp clasps of hi-hat, and although inspired by an ephemeral moment of harrowing dejection long since passed, The Night VI can surely now begin to wave goodbye to solitude to embrace the dawning of altogether brighter days to come…
