I don’t doubt even for a fragmented splinter of a second that of the 7,000-odd SoundCloud plays bashed on Sofia Kourtesis’ Las Magnolias, a not insubstantial percentage can be credited to Gold Panda’s involvement on 808 duties. Though to consequently disregard it is to grant the Berlin-based ambient sculptor a rancid disservice, as it’s a goddamn indulgent bleepfest in its own right – an amorphous conflation of downtempo, motorik rhythms, globular bloops, clacks cocooned in dense reverb, and insouciant sighs only casually injected from time to time. Easy on the ears though undoubtedly complex underneath, it’s a track that only bloomin’ well blossoms with unending repetition.
