On the Horizon: Totally Nice, Paula.

On the Horizon: Totally Nice, Paula.

It’s in a reprehensibly roundabout way we this afternoon come to Paula – not some Abdul regeneration, but instead the tangential endeavour of TOPS’ David Carriere – for Totally Nice is the bonus bit to the vinyl reissue of last year’s Relaxed Fit LP. So whilst that one blew clean under the radar, it’s this lonesome straggler which got snagged on our attention this afternoon. And we’re thanking twinkly things it did, for it’s a wistful, disco-gilded composition of stainless guile suitably evocative of a more introspective take on TOPS: Carriere croons of an infamous “drug that you take that makes you fall in love” over a shimmering, if still yearning synthetic ’80s aesthetic and doubtless addictive, for a frivolous appendage this one does indeed prove Totally Nice.

Relaxed Fit is to be rereleased next month via Drag City imprint Ethereal Sequence.
