On the Horizon: Warming Up, Salt Cathedral.

On the Horizon: Warming Up, Salt Cathedral.

Take Me To The Sea is probably something of an ill-timed sentiment if you’re currently holed up in England, as it’d surely be as bitterly miserable on the island’s fringes as it is here inland. Though the track of that same name from Brooklyn five-piece Salt Cathedral is, consequently, kind of akin to a crystal-encrusted mirage that’s highly savoury, and so too sweet in places: subduedly expansive as Blonde Redhead’s Misery Is a Butterfly yet still intimate and with that introspective as the likes of daydreamy British types Fear Of Men and Deaf Club, Juliana Ronderos’ affecting coo flutters elegantly about wistful minor key progressions, papilionaceous flutters of guitar, and hushed whispers of rhythm. And whether “somewhere near the mountains” or down beside the intensely salted seaside, there’s an oneiric lucidity to it (think BRAIDS dipped in Blue Hawaii’s Blooming Summer) which is as transparent as its overwhelming message of escapism. If only we could now fly away with it…
