Neither Brooklyn synth-pop three-piece Little Daylight nor Baltimore’s Future Islands have struggled for online ubiquity in recent weeks and months, and so it should come as little surprise that the latter’s remixing the former’s Overdose was met with much rapture throughout the www.
And rightly so, for once a rampant, irresistibly rhythmic panegyric on a most addictive relationship, Gerrit Welmers has subsequently transformed the single into a murky, smouldering power ballad. Its synths heavy, if not leaden, and with Nikki Taylor’s vocal softly lowered into a lovingly adjusted mix, it’s no less heady than the original version, prickly blips and doleful bloops accenting an unabashedly melodramatic piece of consummate contemporary pop music.
Future Islands play Camden’s Electric Ballroom May 7th, The Great Escape May 10th and the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire November 6th. Further details in the Diary.
