Pixies, Um Chagga Lagga.

While Indie Cindy represented, purely and simply, a qualitatively questionable and motivationally money-making compilation, pulling together material taken from a number of then-contemporary, and commensurately iffy EPs, the Pixies’ follow-up full-length – Head Carrier, due September – reportedly plays rather more like a cohesive piece. Regardless, Um Chagga Lagga (below) proves an interesting choice of song to thrust out first, tapping back into Black Francis’ undammable, but Goddamn magnificent thirst for nonsensical, surrealist gobbledygook; more reminiscent of, for instance, Crackity Jones than Monkey Gone to Heaven, then. However, speaking comparatively, it’s a stirring return to comparative form that suggests – and this I suggest necessarily tentatively – that this may not be a case of Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering, and newly recruited bassist Paz Lenchantin’s reaching all hands out to the udders, in order to pump some more cash from the proverbial bovid, after all…

Head Carrier will be available from Friday, 30th September, via Pixies Music / [PIAS], while the Pixies play the O2 Academy Brixton on Monday, 11th July [INFO/SOLD OUT].
