Romare, Gone.

While he may not be one of the UK’s most high-profile contemporary producers, Archie Fairhurst – probably better known as Romare – has repeatedly proven himself to be among the best. Both prolific and consistently interesting, Gone once again goes to show how well Fairhurst interpolates adventitious sounds with a block-rocking bedrock of readily discernible beats and whatnot. But where this single – a first in a fairly long while by recent standards – deviates from much of Projections and, subsequently, Love Songs: Pt. Two is in the tonal darkness in its innermost recesses; a tenebrosity reminiscent of John Talabot’s steamy masterpiece, ƒIN. In any case, the track has brightened this afternoon tenfold.

Gone is available from September 27th via Ninja Tune.
