I was in last night, although there’s little I wouldn’t have done to be out. Or more specifically, to have been out at the Electric Brixton, where Kevin Shields’ My Bloody Valentine were readying themselves to tear into a by their standards extensive world tour commencing in Japan just next week. The big news was arguably Shields’ wry risposte to some opportunistic heckling concerning the release of new material. “Two or three days.” However more pertinently, the band now expanded to a five-piece opened up with a new and as yet untitled one – down on the setlist as Rough Song – which, although débuted less than 24 hours ago and here regurgitated in pretty gritty quality, already sounds a ruddy triumph from the much lionised Loveless era. Their most ebullient recording in aeons (arguably since I Only Said), we can but hope of hearing an original version in as short a timeframe as Shields has already intimated…
My Bloody Valentine, Rough Song (live at Electric Brixton).
My Bloody Valentine return to London for two March dates at the Hammersmith Apollo, whilst they’re already lined up for Barcelona’s Primavera Sound as well.
