S Pure X SW.

S Pure X SW.

And so we once more approach the time of the season for the music industry more or less in its entirety to engulf Austin, Texas whole. The inbox is slowly, though surely beginning to bulge with the traditional litany of SXShoWcase invitations that only serve to further exacerbate the innate irritation at our inevitable absence, and Twitter’s aflutter with various bands’ frenzied attempts to finalise their thirteenth show of an early March afternoon. I’ve always wondered what it must be like to be an Austin resident when the delirium steamrolls its way into town, though the latest single from Merok Records’ primary psychedelics Pure X – Things in my Head – gives little whiff of a potentially anticipated derangement: a lukewarm dribble of giddy unintelligibility that’s if not unruffled then entirely out of it, it’s how I instead envisage a dizzy skid about the city to sound. Or at least this is how it sounds in my head, which is about as close as I’ll once again get to 6th Street…

Things in my Head is lifted from the Texans’ forthcoming sophomore, Crawling up the stairs which is expected May 13th.
