First Transmission: Sleepy, Apologise.

Tempering the slacker credentials of Built to Spill et al. with the fresh effervescence of fellow Antipodeans The Beths, Apologise – the latest from Sydney-based three-piece Sleepy – rouses the drowsy across the course of 161 irrepressible seconds. Lyrically, there’s an emotional maturity on show – the renouncement of “coming home in the morning light” and/ or “going out every single night,” in essence – which somewhat belies the otherwise zippy musical accompaniment, although the outcome really outstrips the sum of its component parts. And that in spite, or perhaps because, of a chorus some might say rather unapologetically recalls that of a certain other penned by Messrs. Gallagher.
