First Transmission: Surf Rock is Dead, Everything They Said.

My best guesstimate to the general enquiry, ‘Is surf-rock dead?’ would have to be a totally noncommittal maybe; surf-rock-ridden waters are ones I seldom dip even so much as a toe into. Nevertheless, Surf Rock is Dead – an American-cum-Antipodean duo, currently residing in Brooklyn, NYC – have considerably more in common with the immersive shoegaze grooves of DIIV’s enduringly luxurious début album, Oshin, than Dick Dale et al. Obviously…

And Everything They Said, from the pair’s upcoming We Have No Friends? EP, perfectly epitomises Kevin Pariso and Joel Witenberg’s picking up where Zachary Cole Smith’s somewhat glum Home left (or, rather, kicked) off: strikingly evocative of Doused, soused in major-key self-confidence and served up with a side of down-under psychedelia, it makes for the kind of ride which really, truly makes you feel alive. Best clamber aboard below…

We Have No Friends? is available from October 6th via The Native Sound.
