Even a perfunctory indulging in The Only One – the nearly-title track from Anastasia Dimou’s latest Feathers EP, Only One – renders the strange reality that the Austin, Texas songstress is about to embark upon a gargantuan EU tour alongside synthpop stalwarts Depeche Mode wholly logical. For so fibrous are the pillars of synthetic enormity upon which Dimou’s audibly distant vocals stand that filling the vast Halle Tony Garnier of Lyon, or the rather more familiar LG Arena in Birmingham really oughtn’t prove even the slightest of problems. ”I can tell you you’re the only one/ All the reasons stop and end up one” sings Dimou as though channelling the verve of Erotica-era Madonna like some kind of perverse electropop necromancer. And the outcome is hexing as it is fully compelling.
Only One is out this week, while Feathers take to Birthdays February 1st.
