Whitney, FTA.

It’s been three years to the day since Chicagoan ensemble Whitney released their autumnally toned début album, Light Upon the Lake, and today they return with FTA – 147 seconds of dedicatedly crafted and dextrously cross-stitched North Americana. Largely instrumental, strings mingle with bits of brass and sliding guitars, to create a track which perfectly befits fairly lazy late afternoons, and proves at turns reminiscent of both Fleetwood Mac’s dusky Albatross and Sufjan Stevens’ desolate Should Have Known Better. And the outcome is as good as, if not better than, anything they’ve yet put their name to.

Whitney play the Roundhouse on November 29th.
