First Transmission: Will Karmis, String.

While String, by New York’s Will Karmis, is quite unquestionably the kind of song which one day deserves a more high-fidelity revision, this particular – and particularly candid – rendition allows his plaintive lyrics to cut through with keen precision. “Pull the string, roll the dice/ Cut the rope, get me high/ My life hasn’t stopped with you gone/ It’s just I don’t feel like I’m living at all,” he’ll repeat. Sentimental yet never mawkish, atop little other than crude acoustic, the track recalls the estimable likes of Grandaddy, Daniel Johnston and Jeff Mangum, and is cut short all too soon.
