Wye Oak, It Was Not Natural.

Few would have foreseen Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack – together, better known as Wye Oak – returning to the fray with such formidable, but so too accessible stuff as The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs and, now, It Was Not Natural. The latter, taken from a forthcoming album of the former title, cements the Americans’ newfound footing as redoubtable proponents of monumental alt. pop, as production redolent of Andrew Powell’s work alongside Kate Bush provides the sheen to a more reflective vocal performance from Wasner that’s as versatile, lithe and pliable as those both known and renowned of the Rubberband Girl herself. And, all cloud-busting choruses and sky-scraping synths, there is – as was with The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs before it – every suggestion that Wye Oak are now destined to scale rather greater heights than ever previously…

The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs is available from April 6th via Merge Records, while Wye Oak play Village Underground on May 3rd.
