Gorillaz, Fire Flies.

While Damon Albarn’s latest Gorillaz full-length, The Now Now, may be comparably light on collaborations, on the basis of that which we’ve heard from it thus far, it doesn’t cover a great deal less stylistic ground than any one of its predecessors. And the latest to escape from it, Fire Flies, is a smouldering, slow-burn ballad that could have quite (if not quite) happily sat between Saturnz Barz and Andromeda, Albarn’s “love-drunk” delivery racked with an unshakeable sense of modern-day uncertainty. So, in short, The Now Now is certainly shaping up to take pride of place in the supremely polymathic songsmith’s estimable canon.

The Now Now is available from June 29th via Parlophone.
