Anna Meredith, Paramour.

Having composed the score for Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade and recomposed Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (Anno) since the release of her wonderfully befuddling début, Varmints, it’s fair to say that Anna Meredith hasn’t exactly been slacking in the interim. Nevertheless, the news of her sophomore full-length, entitled FIBS, is very welcome and, no word of a lie, its leading number – Paramour – is as extraordinary as we’ve come to expect. Indeed, it’s the first song ever to remind me of Hudson Mohawke, Modeselektor, Koji Kondo, and YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN within the space of five minutes, and harks back – albeit distantly – to both R-Type and Shill from that aforesaid début. But ultimately, it’s the unmistakable sound of Meredith forging her way forwards, setting herself up for forever bigger and better things. An upgrade on that MBE may be in the offing at this rate…

FIBS is available from October 25th via Moshi Moshi / Black Prince Fury, while Anna Meredith plays EartH on February 5th.
